Volunteer Opportunities - The Excel Empowerment Centre Inc

The Excel Empowerment Centre (TEEC) is looking for volunteers to help newcomer women one-on-one with foundational reading, writing, and spelling, and with group setting conversation. They are also looking for volunteers to help children age 6 to 16 with English and Math. There may also be other activities such as outdoor recreation for the women and girls newly arrived in the city.

TEEC is a drop-in centre for newcomer immigrants and refugees, providing a safe space for individuals to express their feelings without fear of repercussions, providing healing and social support, increasing computer literacy, offering sewing classes to gain marketable skills, and providing a space for recreational and cultural activities to promote and enhance emotional and mental wellness. Additionally, TEEC plans to provide basic English classes to improve communication skills, as well as opportunities for leadership development, small business training, and language training.

The Centre offers wellness workshops, fundraisers, peace days, family camping, field trips, traditional dancing, conflict training, trauma healing circles, life skills training, and youth leadership development.

Indigenous Holistic Counsellor: West Central Women's Resource Centre

Reporting to the Director of Restoring the Balance, the Indigenous Holistic Counsellor will bring a holistic lens to their work, focusing on the whole person— Spirit, Emotions, Mind, and Body. The Indigenous Holistic Counsellor will provide a client-led experience that is rooted in Indigenous resilience, spirituality, harm reduction, trauma-informed, and strengths-based practices.

Please note that Indigenous candidates will be prioritized for this position.

Salary Range: $25-29/hour, 6% vacation pay, plus a benefits package and matched RSP after 3 months

Time requirement: 37.5 hours per week

Program Officer, Gender: MCIC Manitoba Council for International Cooperation

Responsible for managing FIT-funded projects – focusing specifically on how their gender initiatives and activities can be incorporated into testing environments and effectively measured – the Program Officer, Gender reports to the Director of Innovation, Fund for Innovation and Transformation (FIT) and also works closely with the FIT team.

This person will offer mentorship to funded organizations where needed and extrapolate learnings that can be shared more widely internally and with the public. In addition to having experience with program implementation and innovation environments, it is key for this individual to work closely with team members to measure project results.

They will also participate in FIT’s public engagement activities, by ensuring programming communications is effectively and accurately conveying the lens of gender in FIT’s projects.
