Threats
A threat may be directed at an individual, an identified group, or the University as a whole. The threat may infer physical violence or destruction of property.
THREAT MADE IN PERSON
- Make every attempt to appear calm in your emotions and in your voice,
- Attempt to alert others of your predicament.
- If you are actually speaking with the individual, advise them that your main goal is to HELP them, not hinder them.
- Attempt to distance yourself from the individual, if possible.
- Contact Security Services at 204.786.6666 as soon as possible.
- Describe the person in as much detail as you can.
- If the person has left the area, IMMEDIATELY LOCK YOUR DOOR, if possible.
THREAT MADE VIA TELEPHONE
- If possible, more than one person should listen to the incoming call.
- Make note of the EXACT WORDING of the message and the time of receipt.
- Keep the caller talking and obtain as much information as possible.
- Question the caller, if possible, about their motive.
- Listen for background noises, such as music, equipment, traffic, etc.
- Pay attention to the caller’s voice: is the caller a male or female, is the caller loud or soft spoken, does the caller speak fast or slow, does the caller have an accent?
- Notify your supervisor or a co-worker.
- Call Security Services at 204.786.6666 from another telephone or the 澳门王中王论坛 Police Service 911 (advise Security Services if you contact the 澳门王中王论坛 Police Service).
- The person receiving the threat must remain available for police interview.
- The telephone where the threat was received must be monitored in the event of further threatening calls.
THREAT MADE BY ELECTRONIC MEANS
- Do not destroy any records of the communication.
- If you believe the sender is on campus, IMMEDIATELY LOCK YOUR DOOR.
- Contact Security Services at 204.786.6666.
THREAT MADE BY OTHER MEANS
- If you discover a threat made by other means (such as a note on a wall) immediately contact Security Services at 204.786.6666.
