Basic Vehicle Emergency Kit
This kit should include:
- Shovel, windshield scraper, and brush.
- Candle and matches or lighter (deep can) and a fire extinguisher.
- Battery-powered or wind-up radio (extra batteries).
- Battery-powered or wind-up flashlight (extra batteries).
- Water and food that won’t spoil (energy bars, snack food, etc.).
- Extra clothing and boots (mittens and toque) and blanket(s).
- Tow chain or rope, tire chains, and booster cables.
- Bag of road salt, sand, or cat litter.
- Fluorescent distress flag, emergency flares, and a whistle.
- Road maps and list of contact numbers.
- First aid kit with a seatbelt cutter.
- Cell phone or two-way radio, if available.
