Overview
The Master in Public Policy at the Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia prepares students to develop practical solutions to real-world policy problems in the region through a multi-disciplinary focus on economics, quantitative analysis and public policy management.
This Programme is formulated to equip graduates and mid-career professionals to develop greater technical capability in evidence-based policy analysis and to better understand fundamental concepts and contemporary issues on economic development, social inclusion, political governance and technological trends.

This programme is a 1-2 year programme of 8 modules including 4 core modules, 2 capstone research projects and 2 electives.

Entry Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6, Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF)) in the field or related fields with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.75 or equivalent, as accepted by the Higher Education Provider (HEP) Senate.
- A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6 MQF) in the field or related fields or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting a CGPA of 2.75 can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment.
- A Bachelor’s Degree (Level 6 MQF) in the field or related fields or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting a CGPA of 2.50 can be accepted subject to a minimum of five years of working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.
Candidates without a related qualification in the field or working experience in the relevant fields must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the HEP and meet the minimum CGPA based on the above criteria.
Any other equivalent professional qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government.
For international students:
- IELTS: 6.0 /CEFR: B2 or its equivalent
- TOEFL : PBT (550); OR IBT (75)
- Cambridge English (Advanced) : 180/ CEFR: B2
- Cambridge English (Proficiency): 180 / CEFR: C1
- PTE Academic : 50
Application Process
As part of your application, you will need to nominate two referees who are senior people acquainted with your work and who must provide a written comment on your academic and/or professional suitability to undertake the program.
Applicants will be required to submit:
- A detailed CV
- A certified copy of each degree-level certificate obtained
- Certified copies of all degree-level transcripts
- IELTS/ TOEFL/ PTE score report (if applicable)
- One (1) letter of reference (academic and/or professional)
- A personal statement of your interest in Master in Public Policy.
