Overview
American Popular Music introduces students to popular music throughout the history of the United States of America, with emphasis on Tin Pan Alley, jazz, country music, rock and other recent styles. We will also cover the composers, lyricists, performers and other persons whose work as well as creativity, have contributed to the vast body of popular music today. You will be required to either sing or play a musical instrument for this class.
On completing the course, students will be able to:
- Apply the understanding of American popular music's unique attributes.
- Explain the different genres in music.
- Conduct a performance of American popular music.
