The recently concluded September 2024 semester marked a significant milestone for ETP 2014 Startup Foundry, an industry-powered university free elective academic module that equips students with the entrepreneurial mindset and tools to tackle real-world challenges. Co-designed and delivered by ºìÐÓÊÓƵ iLabs at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ University and the School of Engineering and Technology, the module integrates academic rigour with industry expertise to foster entrepreneurial success.

With 220 students from four different academic schools — including the School of Engineering and Technology, ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Business School, School of Mathematical Sciences, and School of Arts — this cohort was the largest to date, showcasing the module’s growing influence and reach.

The module brought together more than 25 industry practitioners, including entrepreneurs and venture analysts, who contributed as guest lecturers, workshop speakers, mentors, and demo day judges. Their involvement provided students with invaluable insights into problem-solving through design thinking, pitching innovative ideas with societal impact, and gaining first-hand experience of the entrepreneurial journey.

A standout feature of this semester was the return of Startup Foundry alumni who, equipped with the skills and experiences gained during their own entrepreneurial journeys, came back to contribute to building the future. Once students nervously pitching their first ideas, they are now instrumental in guiding and mentoring the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs, giving back to the community that shaped them.

The module concluded with a showcase of innovative solutions, where several teams emerged as top achievers in their respective tracks. These students demonstrated exceptional creativity and dedication, marking the beginning of their entrepreneurial journeys.

Looking ahead, ºìÐÓÊÓƵ iLabs and ºìÐÓÊÓƵ University are committed to nurturing these budding entrepreneurs. The next phase will provide prototype funding to help bring their ideas to the next level — to build, launch, and scale — ensuring that the entrepreneurial spirit continues to thrive.
