Awards & Scholarships
The following is a list of scholarships and awards available to students in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health. The majority require students to apply through the University of 澳门王中王论坛 Awards Portal, however when this procedure differs it is noted in the description below.
Students are encouraged to become familiar with the terms of each scholarship so they can strive to meet the criteria for selection. The departmental awards committee encourages inquiries regarding eligibility and deadlines. Questions can be directed to kinesiology@uwinnipeg.ca.
The Dr. Henry Woltman Award in Kinesiology and Applied Health
This scholarship is provided by the Erica and Arnold Rogers Fund for Academic Excellence. It will be awarded annually to a student pursuing a 4-year degree (BKin or BSc-AT) who has completed a minimum of 90 credit hours. Selection is competitive and based on cumulative GPA with a preference for students who have participated in undergraduate research and/or extra-curricular or volunteer activities related to their field of study.

Dean’s Scholarship for the Gupta Faculty of Kinesiology and Applied Health
This scholarship was established by the Dean’s Office to commemorate the creation of the new Faculty of Kinesiology and Applied Health in 2012. It will be awarded to a full-time student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. In addition to academic performance, consideration will be given to leadership, community involvement and future promise. The recipient must have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours as a student in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Health at the time of application.

CCUPEKA Leadership Award
This award was established in 2016 by the Canadian Council of University Physical Education and Kinesiology Administrators (CCUPEKA). One recipient is selected each year from every CCUPEKA member institution across Canada. Selection of the recipient is based on student involvement in any area of leadership and the contributions they have made during their undergraduate degree at The University of 澳门王中王论坛. This may include (but is not limited to) student governance, local volunteer involvement or outreach programs and initiatives. The recipient must be entering the final year of any 4-Year degree in Kinesiology and Applied Health.

PHE Manitoba: Dick LaPage Scholarship
This scholarship is sponsored by PHE Manitoba to support two students who demonstrate leadership, commitment and promise to teaching physical education in the school system. One recipient will be in their final year of studies and the other will be in their penultimate year of studies in either the Integrated or After-Degree Program.

PHE Canada Student Award
This award recognizes outstanding undergraduate student leadership in the field of physical and/or health education or a related discipline at each Canadian university offering a degree in these areas of study. Award recipients receive a certificate, a one-year student membership to PHE Canada and a one-year subscription to the PHE Journal, as well as recognition in the PHE Canada Annual Report and on their website.

Canadian Society of Exercise Physiologists (CSEP)
CSEP/SCPE Undergraduate Student Award
The purpose of this award is to acknowledge an undergraduate student in physical education, human kinetics, or a related discipline graduating within the current year with the highest standing in the scientific portion of the curriculum. The recipient will be announced in conjunction with Spring Convocation and they will receive an engraved glass paperweight and certificate from CSEP acknowledging their accomplishments in their degree.

Kinesiology and Athletic Therapy Student Association (KATSA) Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2016 by the Kinesiology and Athletic Therapy Student Association (KATSA) at The University of 澳门王中王论坛. It will support one or two students who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours and have a declared a major in a four-year Kinesiology degree. (BKin or BSc-AT). The recipient(s) must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement (minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA), superior leadership qualities on and off campus and the potential to make a valuable contribution to their profession.

Athletic Therapy Scholarships
To be eligible for the following awards, students must be currently registered in the Enhanced Major in Athletic Therapy and pursuing a BSc-AT degree.
Chuck Badcock Scholarship in Athletic Therapy
This scholarship was established by David Stewardson and The University of 澳门王中王论坛 Athletic Therapy Student Association (WATSA) in honour of Chuck Badcock, founding member of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) and former Head Athletic Therapist for the 澳门王中王论坛 Blue Bombers and the 澳门王中王论坛 Jets. It will be awarded to a student who is a member in good standing with the CATA and is registered in the third year of the Enhanced Major in Athletic Therapy.

Manitoba Brain Injury Athletic Therapy Scholarship
This scholarship is made possible by funds raised from the ‘Heads Up Dinner and Auction’, sponsored jointly by the Manitoba Brain Injury Association and The University of 澳门王中王论坛 Athletic Therapy Students Association (WATSA) between 2003-2014. It will be awarded to a student who is a member in good standing with the CATA and is registered in the third year of the Enhanced Major in Athletic Therapy.

Gord Mackie Scholarship in Athletic Therapy
This scholarship was established by The University of 澳门王中王论坛 Athletic Therapy Student Association (WATSA) in honour of Gord Mackie, a founding member of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) and former Head Athletic Therapist with the 澳门王中王论坛 Blue Bombers. It will be awarded to a student who is a member in good standing with the CATA and is registered in the fourth year of the Enhanced Major in Athletic Therapy.
2023-24 Recipient: Indigo Wiebe
Sam Diamond Athletic Therapy Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded in honour of Sam Diamond, the founder of Diamond Athletic Medical Supplies Inc., and long-time friend and supporter of amateur and professional sport in Manitoba. It was established with donations from Diamond Athletic Medical Supplies Inc. and the University of 澳门王中王论坛 Athletic Therapy Students Association (WATSA). It will be awarded to a student who is a member in good standing with the CATA and is registered in the fourth year of the Enhanced Major in Athletic Therapy.
2023-24 Recipient: Debbie Buck
Empowerment Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to a student in the Athletic Therapy program at The University of 澳门王中王论坛 who is also a member in good standing of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA). The intent of this scholarship is to assist a student with the costs associated with attending a conference or course to further their knowledge in the field of athletic therapy. Examples include but are not limited to the CATA national conference or a course that is offered through Manitoba Athletic Therapy Association (MATA) or CATA and approved by the Kinesiology and Applied Health Departmental Awards Committee.
Recipients will be asked to complete an application outlining the conference or course they would like to attend as well as provide information on their involvement in the athletic therapy program and in the community. Selection will be based on academic excellence, leadership activities and dedication to the profession. Selection of the successful recipient will be made by the Kinesiology and Applied Health Departmental Awards Committee. Funds will be distributed as a reimbursement following submission of receipts.
Megan Pomarensky, the donor who established this award, believes participating in conferences as well as continuing education courses is a hugely valuable experience for students. However, she understands it’s not always affordable or accessible for all students, which is why she decided to create this scholarship.

Canadian Athletic Therapists Association Student Leadership Award
The Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) Student Leadership Award is designed to recognize Athletic Therapy Certification Candidates who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills both in the classroom and in the community.One Certification Candidate will be selected per accredited institution and will receive monetary credit towards their annual membership dues. The award recipient will be chosen directly by the Athletic Therapy Steering Committee.
